THUNDER BAY -- Three Thunder Bay photographers and one from Nipigon have had their work recognized by the judges in the annual Lake Superior Photo Contest.
A judging panel for Lake Superior Magazine reviewed almost 900 entries before choosing winners and secondary awards in several different categories.
Donald Malcolm of Thunder Bay earned second place in the Artsy/Altered category for his image of the Sleeping Giant taken from Red River Road and High Street.
Nipigon's Connie Larson was a finalist in the same category for her photo of an inukshuk.
Thunder Bay resident James Brown received an honourable mention in the Nature category for his photograph of a fox, and Bruce Symington of Thunder Bay won honourable mention in the Maritime category with his image of a freighter beside a grain elevator.
Another Ontario resident, Gerry Kaiser of Windsor, took first place in the Lake/Landscape category for a shot of Old Woman Bay in Lake Superior Provincial Park.
Konnie LeMay, editor of the Duluth-based magazine, said "Our spectacular Big Lake neighbourhood—touching on three U.S. states and a Canadian province—offers plenty of visual beauty, and when you couple that with the extremely high technical and composition quality of the images that are entered, it continues to be delightfully difficult to narrow to a few winners."
