The unemployment picture improved slightly in our area in the first full month of autumn.
According to new numbers released by Statistics Canada, the jobless rate in this area was down to 6.3 per cent in October. That’s a modest drop from the 6.4 per cent recorded setting in September.
This area is well below Ontario’s average, which in October was 7.4 per cent.
It’s also below the national average of 6.9 per cent.
The lowest jobless rate recorded in Ontario was in Barrie, where unemployment is now at 5.5 per cent. The highest level of unemployment in this province is Windsor at nine per cent.
