NIPIGON, ON — Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a 29-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl in connection with a break-in and assault at a residence in Nipigon.
The incident early Tuesday morning resulted in injuries to an 81-year-old man.
OPP released details of the case Wednesday but did not divulge the nature of the injuries other than to say they are not life-threatening.
According to police, the victim was hurt after two intruders armed with a weapon entered a residence on Bell Street, then fled the scene on foot.
Officers were able to quickly identify two suspects, and arrested both soon after at another residence in Nipigon.
A man from Dorion and a minor female are both charged with assault with a weapon and breaking into a dwelling with the intent to commit an indictable offence.
The girl is also charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act with failing to comply with a sentence.
Both accused were scheduled to appear in court in Thunder Bay on Wednesday to answer to the charges.
