Atikokan declares local emergency

Community says move will help procure the necessary resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Town of Atikokan had declared a local emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

ATIKOKAN, Ont. – The Town of Atikokan has declared a local emergency to the province because of concerns related to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The declaration was made to ensure the community has the necessary resources available during the public health pandemic.

The town also announced the creation of a COVID-19 assessment centre at the Atikokan Family Health Team building on Zuke Road.

No walk-in appointments will be accepted, and anyone looking to be tested is asked to phone 1-807-597-8781, ext. 0, for an appointment.

Additionally, all public meetings, including council and committee, have been cancelled until further notice.
