THUNDER BAY - A Scarborough teen will remain in custody on charges of attempted murder for an alleged shooting incident on the city’s north side last month.

Kayshan Robertson, 18, appeared before Justice of the Peace Jennifer Neill in a Thunder Bay courtroom on Thursday for a bail hearing.

Robertson is facing two counts of attempted murder and several firearm related offences from an incident on Jan. 17, 2023.

The Thunder Bay Police Service received reports of a shooting at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Ambrose Street.

Responding officers located a female victim in the area. A short time later a male victim was found near the Gateway Casino.

Both victims suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. At the time, the male’s wounds were described as serious, while the female was considered to be in critical condition.

On Jan. 18, 2023, the Ontario Provincial Police and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested three individuals on an Ontario Northland bus in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Thunder Bay Police Service indicated one of the suspects was armed with a loaded firearm and was wearing body armour, while another suspect threw a loaded firearm on the bus.

The suspects were later identified as Robertson and 18-year-old Jayden Bowen of Scarborough, who were both charged with attempted murder, and 20-year-old Isaiah Broomfield of Toronto, who was charged with accessory after the fact.

Investigators with the Thunder Bay Police Service said it appears the incident was related to the illicit drug trade in the city.

Following a contested bail hearing, Justice of the Peace Neill denied Robertson’s bail on tertiary grounds.

There is a publication ban on all evidence and information presented during a bail hearing.

Robertson will make another court appearance next month.

The other two accused remain in custody.
