THUNDER BAY - Some Thunder Bay residents have been muttering this summer about the number of days that's it rained.

It may come as a surprise then to learn that Environment Canada recorded less than half the typical amount of rain that falls on the city in August.

Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says only 41.5 millimetres fell at Thunder Bay Airport, compared with the long-term August average of 88 millimetres.

That's not to say that some other parts of the region got off so lightly.

Kimbell says that although a weather system that resulted in a heavy rainfall warning for the city on August 17 and 18 actually ended up dropping less than 10 millimetres at the airport, accumulations of 70 millimetres were reported around Kashabowie Lake.

Temperature-wise, August has wrapped up with a mean temperature of 16 C in Thunder Bay, about half a degree cooler than normal.
