THUNDER BAY -- A preliminary inquiry for at least five of the Intercity Six is expected to take place in August.

Larissa Shingabis, Felton Sakanee, Keith Mishenene, Christopher Meeseetawagesic and Kevin Wabason were charged with second-degree murder in the July 18 death of 44-year-old Lloyd Oskineegish.

Oskineegish’s burned remains were found in a wooded area off of Field Street and he was the city’s fifth homicide victim of 2014.

A sixth suspect, James Chapais, leading the suspects’ lawyers to dub the group the Intercity Six, was also charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident.

Shingabis, Sakanee, Mishenene, Meeseetawagesic and Wabason appeared in person at the Thunder Bay Courthouse Friday morning and were remanded to March 2 for the continuation of a focus hearing.

On that date, it is expected a preliminary inquiry will be confirmed for the week of Aug. 17.

Chapais’ next court date is May 22.

All suspects remain in custody.

None of the allegations against any of the accused have been proven in court.
