While the weather outside was frightful, it couldn’t wash away an old fashioned Christmas.
For the second year, Founders’ Museum and Pioneer Village held its Ol’ Time Family Christmas Sunday. Although the rain did cause some casualties, most notably the snowman competition, dozens of families were in and out of the museum’s historic buildings to make merry.
“I was wishing for snow (but) we’ll take what we can get,” Founders’ board president Aaron Moquin said smiling. “At least it’s warm.”
Along with a nearly sold-out brunch, the village had arts and crafts and a scavenger hunt. Santa had a building all to himself where people could get a candy cane or hot chocolate along with the chance to tell the big man what their Christmas wish was.
Glen Dunn brought four of his grandchildren out.
“They absolutely enjoyed Santa. That was a big hit,” Dunn said as his grandchildren watched magician Martin Wonderland perform inside the train station.
After visiting with Santa, the children also enjoyed checking out all of the old buildings and machines around the village.
“They really enjoyed the train,” Dunn said.
Admission was two dollars or a donation to the Regional Food Distribution Association. Moquin said he’d already doubled the donations he received last year by early Sunday afternoon.
“Nothing but the best,” he said. “It’s priced right. There’s lots to do.”
