THUNDER BAY – An afternoon fire destroyed a backyard garage and damaged nearby homes.
The blaze broke out around 2 p.m. Wednesday at a High Street South property, where large plumes of black smoke could be seen in the air.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews responded and had the fire under control within minutes, though the structure sustained significant damage before spreading to the house, while the siding on some nearby homes melted.
Platoon chief Brant Kiessig said nobody was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
The investigation into the cause is ongoing.
