THUNDER BAY – City police are warning the public about a bank scam targeting people across the city.

The Thunder Bay Police Service has received calls about local residents being contacted via phone by persons claiming to be from the bank.

Police, in a release issued Thursday morning, said the callers claim there's a problem with a cheque and the person needs to get a money draft from a money transfer institution and send it to a provided name and address to have it cleared.

The callers are described as aggressive, manipulative and convincing.

Police are reminding people to confirm the information they receive before sending information to a person claiming to be from their bank.
