THUNDER BAY -- A basement fire burned a special needs group home on Copenhagan Road Saturday morning.
The Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Service responded to the structural fire call just before 9 a.m. Although first arriving crews reported nothing showing, it was quickly established that there was a working fire in the basement of the residence.
Seven fire trucks were on scene as firefighters brought the blaze under control.
Fire and smoke damage was extensive throughout the structure. Fire Investigators were on the scene through the afternoon to establish the incident's cause.
In a release, firefighters noted staff "quickly and efficiently evacuated all residents safely before TBFRS arrival. They are to be commended for their quick actions. There were no injuries to report on the fire ground."
