Police have seized half a kilogram of cocaine after a traffic stop on John Street Tuesday.
In a news release issued by the combined forces organized crime unit Friday, police say the vehicle was stopped just before midnight and that officers arrested a Beardmore man.
A search of the vehicle and a north-side hotel room registered to the suspect led to the discovery of the cocaine and $4,750 in Canadian cash.
Police say the potential street value of the drugs seized was nearly $50,000.
James Buta, 51, of Beardmore, has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds of crime.
He will remain in custody and is expected to appear in court on Feb. 8.
