Six-year-old Jorja Larrett loved picking in Belluz Farms' strawberry patch but eating the berries was her favourite part.
"The berries tasted awesome and I'd like to come out here to pick Saskatoons next time," she said, with red stains coating her lips.
Belluz kicked off strawberry picking season this weekend and raspberries are on the way next month. It's the 41st year the family farm on Highway 61 has opened its gates to the public.
Jodi Belluz is a third-generation farmer. She hosted a group from Autism Ontario as the first guests of the season.
"For pick your own, it's just the strawberries, peas and Saskatoons coming up but then in the farm store, we have lots of other garden vegetables that we grow that are already picked," she said.
"We do have fresh-picked, which are ready-picked strawberries in the store but also things like baby carrots are coming, beets, kale, amost anything we can grow here in Thunder Bay."
Belluz Farms is open for picking on all days when the weather co-operates. Belluz suggested eager pickers call 475-5181 for the latest schedules.
