THUNDER BAY – Michael Bewcyk, already facing an abduction charge for an incident last month, has been charged with two sexual offences that are alleged to have occurred more than 20 years ago.

The 70-year-old has been charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference dating back to 1996.

Thunder Bay police arrested Bewcyk last month when they saw a man speaking to two young girls, with one riding his electric bike without a helmet. Upon officers identifying him, Bewcyk was taken into custody and subsequently charged with abduction and breach of prohibition.

Bewcyk, a former school custodian, had been convicted of accessing child pornography in 2010. He was under court order to not have contact with anyone under the age of 16.

Bewcyk remains in custody at the Thunder Bay District Jail.
