Bollywood entertainment is coming to this year’s Folklore Festival.

The lineup for the annual multicultural event was announced at the Intercity Shopping Centre on Saturday. Dancers gave audiences a taste of what was in stored next weekend. Some new items to the list were added, which included local traditional Japanese drumming and Bollywood inspired dances.

Jeanetty Jumah, spokeswoman for the Folklore Festival, said they will feature both traditional and modern Bollywood style dances at this year’s festival.

She said it’s an event that allows people to get a better understanding of other cultures found around the world.

“People come to the festival and they see the richness of the culture that made Canada this great nation,” Jumah said. “People develop an appreciation for people of different cultures and for people that look differently. Folklore festival brings the whole of Northwestern Ontario together in celebration of multiculturalism.”

An all expenses paid trip courtesy of Porter Airlines has been the big prize in the past but Jumah said instead of the flight heading to Toronto, they are now offering that free flight to anywhere Porter flies.

Folklore at the Fort William Gardens will starts on Saturday, May 5 at noon until 11 p.m. and Sunday, May 6 from noon to 7 p.m. Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, $1 for children four to 12 and children four and under are free.
