Bombardier Transportation is taking decisive action to ensure deliveries of streetcars to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and its riders.

Since taking office two weeks ago and following a meeting last Friday with TTC CEO Andy Byford, new Bombardier Transportation Americas President, Benoit Brossoit has given his go-ahead to a plan for added capacity to accelerate the pace of delivery of the TTC LRV project.

“Since I’ve taken over my new role, I have made an assessment of top priorities and the TTC LRV project is clearly one that I am addressing immediately”.

The final details of the plan will be communicated to the TTC in the next weeks, but some first measures include bringing online the workforce of a second Canadian manufacturing plant, from La Pocatière, Québec, to supplement the efforts of our employees in Thunder Bay.

La Pocatière will provide sub assembly components such as underframes and cabs to its sister site in Thunder Bay for final assembly. This plan entails adding one assembly line in one of our Canadian or worldwide plants. Through the joint operations of its sites, Bombardier clearly indicates its manifest resolve to deliver as committed all 204 vehicles by the end of 2019.

In the meantime, while making the necessary adjustments for added manufacturing capacity and to significantly accelerate production for the duration of the project, the delivery schedule for 2016 will need to be adjusted. Therefore, we will deliver in 2016 a total of 16 vehicles to the TTC.

Bombardier acknowledges the disappointment of the TTC with regards to delivery of this project so far, but is still committed as ever to support its customer in the full delivery of this order.

Bombardier continues to be driven entirely by the objective of producing quality vehicles. As such, all of the vehicles next in line to be delivered by Bombardier will be of the utmost quality and will perform like those that are in service today.
