Border Cats bring Pineau, two other returnees back for 2024

The Cats' home opener is scheduled for May 31 against the Minnesota Mud Puppies.

THUNDER BAY – A trio of familiar faces have committed to the Thunder Bay Border Cats in 2024.

Thunder Bay’s own Jack Pineau, a Northwoods League all star in his rookie season last summer, heads the list of three returnees, announced by the Border Cats on Tuesday, a list that also includes catcher Cole Ketzner and outfielder/pitcher Peter Fusek.

Pineau, who pitches at Creighton University, was 1-3 with a 4.58 earned run average with the Border Cats in 2023, and took the mound on June 6 when the team made its return to Port Arthur Stadium after three years on the sidelines.

Ketzner, a junior at the University of South Alabama, hit .273 in 49 games, pounding out eight doubles and a home run.

The 6-foot-1 backstop scored 33 runs, second most on the team, and had a .367 on-base percentage.

Fusek, who hails from Chicago, was in uniform for all 68 games for the Cats in 2023, driving in 20 runs and stealing 17 bases, second most on the team.

He also tossed seven games out of the bullpen, compiling a 1.17 earned run average.

The Cats' home opener is scheduled for May 31 against the Minnesota Mud Puppies.

Season tickets are available by emailing info@bordercatsbaseball.com. Individual tickets and flex packs go on sale on May 1 at the Port Arthur Stadium box office.
