Movie buffs and sea lovers alike were flocking to the lake shore Tuesday to get a glimpse of a piece of cinematic history.

HMS Bounty, docked in Thunder Bay Tuesday afternoon while hundreds of people took in the view from Hillcrest and Marina Park. Event co-ordinator Kerry Berlinquette said she’s excited by the amount of onlookers.

"I’m overwhelmed by the community support already for this event and that’s just the people who have been waiting all day to see her sail in," Berlinquette said. "It is just amazing."

The 200-foot tall ship was built in 1960 for the movie Mutiny on the Bounty starring Marlon Brando. Pirates of the Carribean also featured the ship.

Standing on a hill at Marina Park with her seven-month-old daughter Emily, Ashley Garrett said while she’s excited to see the ship she’s a little disappointed one star didn’t make the voyage.

"Well I would’ve preferred to see Johnny Depp, but I hear he’s not coming," Garrett said. "But it’ll be cool to see something that big here and see what’s all on there."

Garrett said she and her whole family will line up on Wednesday to take a tour of the ship.

Berlinquette said from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, the public can spend $3 to walk around the ship and take a look inside. A free shuttle service will leave Intercity Shopping Centre every 15 minutes to bring people to Pier 3 where HMS Bounty is docked.
