THUNDER BAY -- Even after 25 years, the Boys and Girls Club in Thunder Bay still looks forward to the last Wednesday in August.

That's the day they throw a party and showcase what the club does for more than 2,500 kids in the city with their open house.

"It's a big deal for us," executive director Albert Aiello said.

And if inflatables show how big of a deal it is, then this Wednesday at their Windsor Street location was indeed a massive deal. Climbing walls, slides, bouncy castles were all on display.

The grounds also had a dunk tank and barbecue for good measure. Inside were too many activities to count from ping pong to video games, all hosted by community groups.

"It's a great place to be," Aiello said. "It keeps kids busy, keeps kids out of trouble and active and moving. That's what we're all about."

The club runs nine breakfast programs in schools throughout the city. Its two locations also hosts after-school and evening programs.

They also act as neighourhood hubs, giving people a place to share ideas, information and activities.

"We're glad to be able to provide that to the community," he said.
