OTTAWA —The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled various brands as well as unbranded debittered brewer's yeast because it may contain peanut which is not declared on the label.

The recall involves product that was sold across the country, including at The Bulk Zone on Macdonnell Street in Thunder Bay.

A manager at the store told Tbnewswatch all of its supply was promptly removed after the notice was received recently.

The CFIA advises consumers who purchased unbranded debittered brewer's yeast at The Bulk Zone between Feb. 22, 2018 and Feb. 22, 2019 to discard it or return the product to the store.

"If you have an alllergy to peanut, do not consume the recalled products as they may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction," the notice said.

The cross-Canada recall was triggered by a consumer complaint.

The CFIA said "there have been no reported reactions for the various brands of debittered brewer's yeast mentioned in this Food Recall Warning. However, there have been reported reactions associated with other recently recalled brewer's yeast products."

The agency said it is verifying that industry is removing recalled product from the marketplace.
