THUNDER BAY — A fire broke out at a building on the 200 block of Park Avenue on Saturday.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was alerted to smoke in the building when staff called 911 around 11 a.m., according to a media release issued on Sunday.

After the fire was found originating from the exterior and entering the building’s wall, fire crews worked to remove cladding from the interior to access the concealed area where the fire was quickly intensifying.

With aid from the rapid apparatus and personnel, the fire department controlled the situation effectively.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue said in the release that it reminds the public to dispose of smoking materials responsibly, as improper disposal can lead to dangerous situations.

The fire department added that it is important for all to be mindful of fire safety to prevent fires.
