A Thunder Bay Transit driver has been charged for travelling through a red light in connection with a collision that took place last Friday on the city's north side.

The crash between the bus and a commercial vehicle happened on the corner of Clarkson Street and Red River Road. The driver of the bus, a 62-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He was released a short time later.

There were three passengers on the bus at the time of the crash, and no other injuries were reported.

Police say the driver has now been charged with failing to stop for a red light.

Transit manager Brad Loroff said they've also launched an internal investigation into the mishap, but he would not comment on whether or not the driver has been suspended.
