THUNDER BAY -- A regional award show is looking to celebrate people who are doing the impossible.

Now in its 29th year, the Northern Ontario Business Awards honours entrepreneurs, organizations and people along with a gathering of more than 500 people in Thunder Bay Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

Northern Ontario Business publisher Abbas Homayed said even when the event, which was last in town in 2010, is in another city Thunder Bay is well represented with delegates and winners.

"Most of our alumni really do come from this region so we're always excited to come back every five years. This year the city of Thunder Bay has really rolled out the red carpet for us," he said.

While the winners have already been picked, they won't be revealed until the awards gala at Bight.

Homayed said people will be blown away by the stories these winners have.

"These are small businesses that absolutely defy the odds," he said.

The event is also a great way for businesses to get together and grow the region's economic activity. Homayed said he knows of a million dollar deal that was done over drinks at one of the award galas.
