Cab driver locks himself in vehicle after being chased by knife-wielding man

THUNDER BAY – A taxi driver was forced to lock himself in his own cab for safety after being ambushed by a man with a knife Sunday night. Thunder Bay Police Service officers say they arrested a 20-year-old man following the 11 p.m. incident.

THUNDER BAY – A taxi driver was forced to lock himself in his own cab for safety after being ambushed by a man with a knife Sunday night.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers say they arrested a 20-year-old man following the 11 p.m. incident. Police say the cab driver was the victim of the attempted robbery near Limbrick Street.

The male suspect, armed with a knife, chased the driver who was returning to his cab. The driver managed to get inside his vehicle and lock himself inside for safety.

The cab driver was not injured during the altercation.

Police responded quickly and located a male suspect in the area. A knife was also recovered.

The suspect is not a permanent resident of Thunder Bay, but will appear in a local courtroom Monday.

Several criminal charges were laid, including attempted armed robbery and breach of recognizance.
