THUNDER BAY — A 29-year-old woman faces charges after colliding with a shed and a parked white SUV on Saturday afternoon on the corner of Ontario Street and Second Avenue.
A single car was reported to have crashed into a tarped shed, causing significant damage, before reversing at a high speed and colliding with the parked vehicle and flipping onto its side, according to a media release issued by the Thunder Bay Police Service on Monday.
Primary response officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service were dispatched to the area after receiving a report of the motor vehicle collision.
A witness who owned the parked SUV said they heard a noise outside their residence around 3:20 p.m., leading them to observe the car hitting the shed across the street before the driver reversed into his car and attempted to flee the scene.
A second witness, who owned the shed, added that the car initially drove into the shed holding their boat twice, damaging the boat’s motor.
Police said firefighters had to extricate the driver from the vehicle.
Responding officers also spoke with the driver and allegedly observed signs of impairment, leading to the driver’s arrest and police taking the woman into custody.
The woman was since charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving.
She has been released with a future court appearance date.
Her vehicle was towed around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday.
