Maynard Martin pleaded guilty and was fined $1,500 for discharging a firearm from a vehicle. He is not allowed to hunt in Ontario for one year and must successfully complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course before being able to hunt in the province again.
On November 21, 2015, a conservation officer contacted Martin while he was field-dressing a deer on his property. Upon investigation, the officer determined that Martin had shot the white-tailed deer from his vehicle while it was parked on a public road.
Justice of the Peace Pat Clysdale-Cornell heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Fort Frances, on March 11, 2016.
The Ministry reminds hunters that it is illegal to discharge a firearm from a vehicle or motorboat. It is also illegal to possess a loaded firearm in or on a vehicle or motorboat. Laws regarding the use of firearms are in place for the protection and safety of hunters and members of the public.
