THUNDER BAY - Activity in the Port of Thunder Bay this shipping season continues to outpace last year.
The Thunder Bay Port Authority reported Tuesday that the port had handled just over 4 million metric tonnes of cargo to the end of July.
That's 17 per cent more cargo than last year at the same time.
Cumulatively, the port has been visited by 179 domestic and foreign vessels, 29 more than last year at this time.
The Port Authority estimates that shipping and cargo-handling supports about 1800 jobs in Thunder Bay and generates $370 million in economic activity.
