THUNDER BAY – Teachers are being reminded about their duty to report any abuse or neglect of a child.
Thunder Bay’s Children’s Aid Society Director of Family Services Rose Bakke says a concern people have with reporting suspected child abuse is the chance they could be wrong.
“A professional cannot be held liable, in terms of reporting to Children’s Aid, as long as they were not acting maliciously and as long as it was based on their professional judgement and there were reasonable grounds,” Bakke says.
“Further to that, let the Children Aid’s Society make the determination.”
Bakke adds that teachers are a key partner in the work the Children’s Aid Society does.
