DRYDEN, Ont. -- A presentation will be made to Dryden city council next week with hopes of gaining support for a casino development in that area.
Chief Ruben Cantin Sr., of Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, says he has people working on a plan that could be accepted beyond OLG's application deadline of March 7.
Cantin forecasts that a casino development with 145 slot machines and accommodations in the range of 70 hotel rooms could generate about $15 million for the Dryden Wabigoon area, as well as create more than 100 jobs.
He added that their feasibility report is now in draft form, as they are still seeking input from a potential operating partner.
Cantin hopes a letter of support from Dryden city council can help move that process forward.
Dryden Mayor Craig Nuttall said his council will remain open to the idea, but due to recent hard hits to city finances it is not something they can likely jump at.
He added that input from residents as well as OLG needs to be heard before they can make the decision to support the project. Nuttall hasn't seen a business plan, and has not heard what possible locations could be available for the facility.
