THUNDER BAY -- A local school board says it'll be business as usual now that a tentative labour agreement has been reached.
The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association and the province struck a tentative deal Tuesday. Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board director Pino Tassone said he's excited that the deal means work-to-rule sanctions that would impact extra-curricular activities like sports are now off the table.
"We were prepared but at the same time we were a little nervous in regard to those sanctions and we're happy to say that now we have a tentative agreement," he said.
Tassone said he doesn't know the details of the agreement, likely ratified in the coming weeks, but benefits, hiring processes and wages were issues on the table.
It's the second tentative deal reached as the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation struck a proposed deal with the province last week for public high school teachers. Elementary, Francophone and support staff are still in talks.
