The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board has announced its new Director of Education.
Joan Powell has worked in the Catholic school system for more than three decades, mainly in Thunder Bay.
Powell said enrolment rates are declining in the Catholic board, which is the number one issue she will address as Director.
Powell added that student success is more than education, it's about creating well-rounded individuals who can thrive in the community after graduation.
Her goal is to shine a light on the opportunities Catholic schools have to offer.
Powell replaces John De Faveri, who is set to retire on July 31st.
She'll begin her position as Director of Education on Aug. 1.
