THUNDER BAY - The Thunder Bay and District Humane Society says dozens of cats removed from a hoarding situation in Thunder Bay last month are showing improved health.
One kitten has died, but executive-director Cassandra Nordal says most of the remaining 40 animals are doing better.
Kittens that had eye problems, in particular, have responded to daily medication and "can finally open their eyes on a regular basis. There's not as much infection, and we're really happy about that," Nordal said in an interview Tuesday at the humane society's Rosslyn Road shelter.
Several of the adult cats are pregnant and are expected to deliver anywhere from 8 to 32 newborns in the coming weeks.
Nordal said some of the cats removed from a Cumming Street apartment on July 5 are in the process of being adopted.
Because of the condition of the animals, a Thunder Bay woman was charged by the OSPCA with seven counts of animal cruelty.
She's scheduled for a court appearance later this month.
