THUNDER BAY – The city’s waterfront was a sea of red and white Friday afternoon.
Hundreds of patriotic locals came together to celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday at the Waterfront. Thunder Bay resident Margo Waibel was among them, and said she’s been making the waterfront her go-to Canada Day spot for 10 years now.
“It’s a lovely time, we enjoy watching the people, the children, and the young ones,” Waibel said.
Waibel and her husband said they are proud of their country and they enjoy seeing everybody come together to celebrate.
The couple toured the marina looking at the different demonstrations and activities.
They hope it stays warm enough to check out the $20,000 firework show, which starts at 11 p.m.
The celebration began at 5 p.m. with entertainment and activities for the whole family.
Families have the opportunity to take part in art workshops, face painting, yoga, inflatable play structures and games.
As well as a variety of community group demonstrations from the Lakehead Canoe Club and the Wilderness Supply which included canoeing, kayaking and dragon boating.
Musical performances will take place throughout the evening with Poor Angus featuring local fiddler Andrew Bryan headlining the main stage.
Thunder Bay Transit shuttles will be running from Intercity Shopping Centre and 55+ Centre to the Marina and back.
