A city councillor isn’t expecting much opposition to three cell towers going up in her ward.

Unlike a proposed cell phone tower in the McIntyre Ward, Neebing Ward Coun. Linda Rydholm said the Bell towers in her area is under 50 metres and not near neighbourhoods..

"So far there haven’t been many complaints," Rydhom said Thursday. "They’re not right beside houses."

Because the towers will be under 50 metres, they won’t require lights either. But because the towers, one near Cavar Road on Hwy 61 another on and two around Mapleward Road, might be within 300 metres of houses the city does require public consultation meetings.

Those meetings will be held Thursday at the Valhalla Inn and Friday at the South Neebing Community Centre. While she doesn’t anticipate anticipation based on the calls and emails received, Rydholm wants people in the Neebing Ward to go to the meetings and learn the specifics on the plan.

"I would hope people would not make up their minds before going to the meeting," Rydholm said.

Both meetings are between 5 and 7 p.m.

On Monday, city council deferred a decision to send a letter on non-concurrence, its only defence to prevent a tower from being built on John Street Road, to Industry Canada. Over 100 people in the area had signed a petition opposing the proposed 165-foot tower.
