THUNDER BAY – Charges have been withdrawn against one of the suspects accused in the death of a 44-year-old man in the Field Street area last July.

A second-degree murder charge against Christopher Meeseetawagesic was lifted Monday morning at the Thunder Bay Courthouse, shortly before the start of the preliminary hearing for the suspects accused of killing Lloyd Oskineegish.

There are now four suspects - Felton Sakanee, Kevin Wabason, Keith Mishene and Larissa Shingebis – who all face a second-degree murder count. Police had previously charged six individuals but a charge against James Chapais has been stayed.

The burned remains of Oskineegish were found in a wooded area near Field Street on July 18, 2014. City police said they believe Oskineegish was the victim of a violent assault.

A preliminary hearing is being held for the remaining suspects in the case.

All of the evidence introduced at the preliminary hearing has been placed under a publication ban.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
