THUNDER BAY -- A 37-year-old man has been charged after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a Thunder Bay residence and failing to remain at the scene of a subsequent crash.

The collision took place on Wednesday at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Mackenzie Station Road in nearby Shuniah.

Officers were told that a grey sedan collided with a red sports car, and the driver of the sports car had left the scene. Both sustained substantial damage, although no injuries were reported, per the provincial police release.

Shortly after, officers located the vehicle on Mackenzie Beach Avenue after receiving a tip from a citizen. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen.

The 37-year-old-man, from Thunder Bay, was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

He is expected to appear in court on July 10.
