Charges laid in fatal December highway crash

Greenstone detachment OPP officials say their officers were dispatched to the scene of a fatal vehicle crash on Highway 11, about 78 kilometres east of Longlac, on the evening of Dec. 6.

Investigation determined that the collision involved an eastbound passenger vehicle that crossed the centre line and struck a westbound tractor trailer unit. The passenger vehicle was then struck head on by a second westbound tractor trailer. 

The crash resulted in the closure of Highway 11 until 6:00 a.m. the next morning.

Shane Semple, 40, of Orleans, Ont., died as a result of that crash. He was in the passenger vehicle at the time of the crash.

On Feb. 10 a 63-year-old male from Magnetawan, Ont., was issued a summons to face charges of driving a motor vehicle without a valid permit, and driving a commercial vehicle with a major defect.

The accused is to appear in Geraldton Provincial Offences Act Court March 24, 2015.
