Charges laid in Sioux Lookout assault case

One victim was airlifted to Winnipeg with life-threatening injuries.

SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 35-year-old man in connection with a serious assault in Sioux Lookout last week.

Police say two females were taken to hospital after a May 11 incident at a hostel on Meno Ya Win Way.

One of the victims was airlifted to Winnipeg with potentially life-threatening injuries.

OPP arrested a resident of Pikangikum First Nation at the scene.

He has been charged with aggravated assault, assault, assaulting a police officer and resisting a police officer.

Police are withholding the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victims.

The man appeared at a bail hearing on Monday and was remanded into custody.
