A local man has been sentenced to 16 months in jail on child pornography charges.

Justin John Mach was sentenced last week on charges of possession and making child pornography available.

The Thunder Bay Police Service's cyber crimes unit began investigating after monitoring file sharing networks and noticed an offer to download suspected child pornography from a local IP address.

Mach was arrested following a December 2014 search of a Lake Street home. Investigators seized a computer, two external hard drives and two USB drives.

In addition to the jail term, Mach is subject to three years probation and is required to comply with the Sex Offender Registry and must submit a DNA sample.
