With more than 550 evacuees from Sandy Lake First Nation in Thunder Bay, city officials say they have reached their limit.
Nearby forest fires forced those most susceptible to smoke such as the sick, elderly and children to leave their homes and seek refuge elsewhere. The city offered the evacuees two hotels to stay in but with hundreds now calling Thunder Bay their temporary home, officials say they have now reached their capacity as a reception centre.
In cooperation with Emergency Management Ontario and its partner agencies, the City’s Emergency Operations Control Group continues to monitor the situation.
