City officials have closed several community pools in order to conserve water following flooding throughout the district.
City officials closed the following facilities as of 5 p.m.: The Canada Games Complex, Churchill Pool, Volunteer Pool, the 55 Plus Centre and the West Thunder Community Centre.
The city also set up a short-term reception centre at the Neebing Arena.
The centre operated by the Canada Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Thunder Bay Social Services and Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue will act as a base for residents whose homes are affected by flooding.
The Neebing Arena isn’t on the city’s Atlantic Avenue Secondary Sewage Treatment plant and will not add to the amount of water being pumped out.
Transportation will be available for people at the Slovak Legion, at 801 Atlantic Ave. Residents are encouraged to call 211 for more information.
The city is also dealing with the following road closures:
• North 25th Side Road from Arthur Street to the north end.
• Mission Marsh Road
• Kline Road extension also known as Little Kline Road
• Highway 130 from Oliver Road to Pole Line Road
• Oliver Road from Mapleward Road to Townline Road
City officials added that tap water is safe to drink, but the Thunder Bay Health Unit recommends that those with private wells should boil the water before drinking.
