City council considers funding request, child care Monday night

City council will consider funding the Shelter House's Street Outreach Services program Monday night.

City council will consider funding the Shelter House's Street Outreach Services program Monday night.

It's recommended that the city pre-commit $50,000 for the program with another $85,000 considered for the budget in order to have the program run year-round.

Buddies of the Brill are still trying to find a permanent home for its two restored buses and will have to do so without help from the city. The buses are currently being stored at Thunder Bay Transit. Administration has told the Amalgamated Transit Union that it has until June of 2015 to get them out. The ATU had proposed building a museum on city-owned vacant land with funds raised by the union and staffed by volunteers. But administration has raised several issues with that plan including the challenge of finding volunteers, no suitable sites and challenges attracting enough visitors.

Also Monday, council will be asked to form a special purpose committee on how it can reduce the costs of city-run child care.
