THUNDER BAY -- Soccer players in the city could soon have a solution to their woes.

City council will review an application from a local men's league, to turn a former industrial building into an indoor soccer facility.

Recreational leagues and players in the city have been short of field space, since the collapse of the Sports Dome and closure of the Confederation College bubble.

Last month, a private developer announced a deal to revamp the college bubble as a soccer space, and on Monday night another proposal will go before council.

The city is being asked to approve zoning changes to the former Northern Wood sawmill on Maureen Street.

Thunder Bay Men's Soccer League official says if zoning is approved, it would immediately start work on two indoor soccer fields there.

While the sawmill would provide much needed field space, league officials said it would be a temporary home, while it looks for a permanent facility.
