THUNDER BAY -- A local high school is adding an industrial workshop to its facility.

Officials with the Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales Monday announced the construction of the workshop for l’École secondaire catholique de La Vérendrye.

The one-storey addition of 3,900 sq. ft. will allow students to pursue work in automotive, welding and manufacturing.

The workshop will be available January 2015. Students from Grades 9 to 12 will be able to register in the transportation technology and manufacturing technology programs. There will also be opportunities for Grades 7 and 8 students to attend science and technology classes.

“This is wonderful news for all of the students of the school, said school principal Denis Malette in a news release issued by the school board Monday.

“Beyond the fact that these programs can lead to highly sought after trades, this is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the transportation and manufacturing industry.”
