THUNDER BAY -- The public is more than wiling to help the city improve Boulevard Lake if Tuesday's open house crowd is any indication.
A room at the Current River Community Centre was nearly at capacity before the first of several open houses on how to improve and enhance the area around the lake even began.
EDS environmental planner John Buchko, a consultant for the city, said there is no plan currently.
"At this point we're still gathering feedback from the public," he said.
That feedback will eventually form recommendations for the park on everything from increased recreation to capital improvements.
"A lot of the improvements, some of the quick wins, we're hoping are free," Buchko said.
"But it depends I think where the stakeholders would take us."
Like many in the Current River ward, Ralph Hibbert said the lake is important to him and his family.
"It's one of the reasons I live in the area," he said.
Hibbert said Tuesday's meeting is a good beginning. He wants to see improved cycling and running access for the area. He's also said the city should think about making Lyon Boulevard a one-way street for vehicles.
"Just to enhance a bit of safety for everyone," he said.
After a month of collecting ideas, Buchko said recommendations will be refined and then presented back to the public. A report will eventually head to city council with full recommendations, including phases and costs.
