THUNDER BAY -- City manager Tim Commisso confirmed Friday police are monitoring a series of “rather serious” threats made against city administration over the last six months.

The city manager did not want to reveal details surrounding the threats, which necessitated extra security guards posted at Thursday night’s Northwood ward meeting, hosted by Coun. Mark Bentz.

In an email, responding to a constituent questioning the expense, Bentz said it was no laughing matter.

“This is not a laughing matter and it is something that needs to be taken seriously.”

Commisso said there are no plans to boost security at city council meetings.

Thunder Bay Police, contacted by Thunder Bay Television News, deferred comment to city administration.
