DRYDEN -- City councillors in Dryden, already embroiled in a protracted dispute with the community's volunteer firefighters, now face the challenge of finding a new Chief Administrative Officer.

Ernie Remillard has submitted his resignation, effective April 13, 2018.

In a news release issued Monday, Dryden Deputy Mayor Nick Beyak said council was "saddened" to receive the resignation, but wishes Remillard the best in his future endeavours.

He was hired in July 2016 after spending many years as president and CEO of the Northern Lights Credit Union  The city's announcement stated that Dryden has benefitted greatly from his experience in the financial sector.

Remillard is moving to Winnipeg where he said he will be closer to specialized health care for his daughter, who has complex medical needs.

In a statement, he said he wanted to thank council and city staff for their hard work and support.
