THUNDER BAY — The city is offering a break to residents of neighbourhoods impacted by thestorm that uprooted or damaged numerous trees on Canada Day.
It will provide a voucher for one free tipping fee for the disposal of yard waste resulting from the storm.
"We understand that the cleanup may take several weeks and that it involves a large volume of trees, limbs and branches," Jason Sherband, manager of solid waste and recycling services, announced Wednesday.
"To ease the burden of dealing with this material and ensure that it goes to the proper laydown area, we've introduced a temporary voucher system so that one load of yard waste per affected household can cross the scales free of charge."
Affected residents can arrange to obtain a voucher by calling the Mapleward Road landfill at 807-684-2470 or by emailing [email protected]
Vouchers may either be delivered by mail or picked up at the administration building (before the scales) at the landfill site between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Only one voucher will be provided for each impacted household, and all vouchers will expire on Aug. 31.
People arriving at the landfill site with a mix of yard waste and regular garbage will be charged the regular tipping fees.
