THUNDER BAY -- City police are honouring one of their own for saving a woman's life New Year's Eve.

Const. Trevor Lind responded to a call from Superior North EMS to help after an unconscious woman was found at her apartment with self-inflicted wrist wounds.

She woke up and went to the roof and jumped 12 feet to the lower level.

Lind made the jump himself and was able to grab her before she could jump again, this time a 25-foot drop.

He was able to bring her safely to the paramedics. Lind was awarded Tuesday morning during a Thunder Bay Police Services Board meeting.

"Lind's courage and willingness to put another's life before his own is a testament to his dedication and compassion to the citizens of Thunder Bay and the Thunder Bay Police Service," police said in a media release.
