A member of the Thunder Bay Police Service known for having an incredible success rate was honoured Wednesday.

Police Service Dog Thunder has retired.  He has been on the job with his partner Const. Joe Prevett since August 2005.

A typical success rate for a police dog is around 30 per cent, but Thunder boasted a rate of 70 per cent.

Prevett said one notable case he remembers working with Thunder followed a reported bank robbery in Oliver Paipoonge.

The evidence was turned over to Police, who located the suspect and put together a successful prosecution.

Prevett calls Thunder the best partner he ever had.

He will be keeping the dog, who will now spend his days resting on the couch.

Prevett will begin training with a new dog in April.  Until that time, city police have an agreement with the OPP for K-9 unit support.
